30 year goggles - A Precious Mother and Daughters Session - Southern Illinois Family Photographer

Hey Everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well these days!!  I know that with the nice warm weather comes the storms…and I know some of my friends in Mississippi have been having a heck of a time lately!!  I am sending all of my prayers and good juju to you all!!

I just got back from an alumni workshop with a couple who I absolutely adore. Bobbi + Mike.  I attended one of their first workshops in November of 2011 and have kept in contact with them via Facebook group ever since.  The things I have learned from this fabulous group of people is countless, honestly more than you could ever learn at a college or university!!  Bobbi and Mike genuinely care for the people that attend their workshops and they are just the real deal.  I could go on and on all day about how wonderful they are….but you're just going to have to take my word for it and go to one of their workshops and you will find out!   If you are a photographer out there who is looking for something that will truly make a difference in, not only your life, but in your business…please look them up.

ok…so anyway…one of the things that I have learned from them was the idea of putting on your "30 year goggles".

I don't know many people who really like having their picture taken.  Well…I could probably name a few people who are quite the ham….but then again that is just a handful…so anyway…I digress….

Most people I know cringe when it's that time of year, but you need to take a step back and realize that in 30 years no one is going to care what you wore, how much you weighed, if you had a zit on your face.  Your kids and grandkids are going to look at your professional images, be it a family session, wedding images, boudoir images,  and think "Holy shit…Grandma was hot"  or "OMG….look at how in love they looked"  or "Wow, look how much fun we had together".

ok…moral of the story is, when you are looking at your family pictures you just took, and you are judging yourself so hard. Or when you are holding off on booking that family session because you need to lose 20 pounds.  Put your 30-year goggles on and think about what these images will mean to your family in 30 years.  It's been said time and time again…but we don't know how long we will all be here. We don't know how long we have with the people that we love.  So don't wait…just don't.

SOOOOO…about these images that I am posting.  My good friend Jamie Faulkner asked me to come down and photograph her and her 2 sweet baby girls.  Just doing their thing.  They hang out and snuggle a lot…and one of the things that Jamie is notorious for saying is "I want to remember this time."  and I totally get that.  It's the little things that we look over every day…that are easily forgotten.  They way Quinn reaches up to touch her face.  The way Ella holds her hair back.  Those are two small things that when looking back in 30 years Jamie will be able to go straight back to that moment in time when they were 3 years old and 9 months old and remember exactly how she felt in that moment.

This is why I do what I do.  So that in the years to come you can look back at your images and remember exactly the way you felt about the people you loved at exactly that time.

While editing these images I just kept thinking about how priceless these images will be to Quinn and Ella.  Not only will Jamie be able to remember what the girls were like at this age…but Quinn and Ella will be able to look at how their mother looked at them.  How so over-the-moon crazy their mother was about them.  *tears*

ok…pulling myself together now….

so anyway….here are the images….The 30-year goggle thing really hit home for me….I hope it will to you too!
