Shooting Film - Clary's Workshop

When I started working for a large local studio back in 2004 we were still shooting film.  So that is what I learned on...I remember taking extremely large rolls of film out of the behemoth Camera Z's.  100 Degree summers and your arms were stuck in the sleeves of a dark bag cutting and rolling the film and sealing it into a metal can.  Those were the days.  Shortly after that season ended we made the transition over to digital and never looked back.  After all, digital is wayyyy cheaper, easier, and you can see your image immediately!  Honestly though, film is sooooo much better in so many ways.  Instead of coming home, downloading the images and then editing for a couple of hours on one session....I drop the film in a bag and send it off to the lab.  When I get the email for the scans the images are perfect as they are, no editing required. So I honestly think the extra waiting time and cost or processing outweigh the time spent in front of the computer caressing the mouse at 2am.

It was this time in 2004 that I met an amazing gal that I am proud to this day to call my friend and when she posted on facebook that she was offering a film workshop I jumped at the opportunity.  Clary is a true artist who is beautiful inside and out and makes me drool on a regular basis with all of the spectacular images she posts.  I am so honored and thankful that I got to attend this workshop and I am so pumped to get started adding film to my workflow.

Film has a soul.  Each roll of film that you open to put into your camera has a DNA that makes each image captured unique even in some minuscule way.  Not only image quality though, when you are shooting film you are shooting more deliberately and with purpose.  You make sure everything is exposed the way it should be before even clicking the shutter.  You have to because every image literally means money....no more days of the spray and pray that digital brings.
